______ Project Overview

Ashgill Road is a new 48-unit affordable housing development in Milton, Glasgow, and is our first project to benefit from a fifth-generation heat network in the form of a Ground Source Heat Pump Shared Ambient Loop (Boreholes) linked to individual Water-to-Water Heat Pumps in each dwelling. Spanning across three blocks, the homes for mid-market rent were developed for Wheatley Homes Glasgow, designed by Collective Architecture and constructed by CCG (Scotland) Ltd.

______ Our Scope

Carbon Futures was appointed as sub-consultant to the architect, Collective Architecture, to provide Energy & Sustainability Consultancy up to RIBA Work Stage 3. We were then novated to the contractor, CCG (Scotland) Ltd, for RIBA Stage 4 onwards. This involved providing Energy Strategy Analysis and Statement on Energy for planning, alongside a full range of compliance services for building warrant and completion under the 2020 Building Standards.

______ Details

With our support, this innovative new development has achieved Gold Hybrid under Glasgow City Council’s SG5 Resource Management planning policy, which requires compliance with Aspect Gold Level 1 (Carbon Dioxide Emissions) and Aspect Silver Level 2-8 under Section 7 (Sustainability), meaning the Ashgill Road project achieves Silver Active on its Sustainability Level.

Furthermore, The Ashgill Road project achieves a Low & Zero Carbon Generating Technology (LZCGT) abatement of 42.36%, well in excess of the minimum 20% required by planning policy. It also achieves an average SAP Rating of 87B. Other features are as follows:

Enhanced fabric performance including external walls with a U-value of 0.14 W/m²K.

A mix of Centralised and Decentralised Mechanical Extract Ventilation (cMEV/dMEV).

Ground Source Heat Pump Shared Ambient Loop (Boreholes) / Individual Water-to-Water Heat Pumps for space heating and domestic hot water.

Waste Water Heat Recovery for compliance with Aspect Silver Level 3 (Energy for Water Heating) under Section 7 (Sustainability).
