Passivhaus Classic Certification Secured for Yoker Housing Association Development

We recently supported Yoker HA in the delivery of 15 Passivhaus properties at Blawharthill Place in Glasgow. The development consisted of 15 affordable homes, including two blocks of cottage flats and three blocks of terraced bungalows on the site of the former Blawarthill Hospital.

The highly energy-efficient dwellings are designed to suit ambulant disabled residents, and one unit is fully wheelchair accessible. Their high levels of insulation, good indoor air quality and low-carbon design will help reduce tenant running costs, whilst also helping our client comply with regulatory requirements and Scotland’s climate change targets.

As Passivhaus Consultant on this project, Carbon Futures made recommendations to the architects Grant Murray,  enabling the proposal to achieve Passivhaus Classic certification.

Carrying out a number of important calculations for the project, our team conducted PHPP Calculations, SAP Calculations, U-Value Calculations and bespoke Psi-value Calculations to account for the twin-stud timber frame system utilised on the project.

Upon completion, our team concluded the formal Passivhaus certification, and also issued the development’s Energy Performance Certificates and Sustainability Labels to confirm compliance with Section 6 (Energy) and Section 7 (Sustainability) of the Scottish Building Regulations.

It is great to see an increasing number of Passivhaus developments being delivered across the UK, and we are proud to play our part in supporting this movement towards high-performance properties with low operational carbon.

We were delighted to receive excellent feedback from the client on our input:

“Carbon Futures proved to be an invaluable partner and contributor to the Association’s latest Passivhaus housing scheme.

Throughout the development process David and his team provided the support necessary to achieve the end result of Passivhaus Certification.

While the project faced many challenges, Carbon Futures staff maintained a highly professional approach throughout.  They were a key member of the team that finally delivered for the Association and its tenants. We look forward to opportunities to work with them again in the future.
