The proposed new £140m development at Wyndford Road in Maryhill, Glasgow is set to be one of Scotland’s biggest regeneration projects.
401 new energy-efficient affordable homes will be constructed alongside a brand-new community hub, new play spaces and new bike storage. New green spaces will be created within the area and locals will benefit from improvements to walkways, cycle paths and car parking facilities.
Subject to planning approvals, construction of the new homes is expected to begin in late 2026.
Carbon Futures has been appointed as Energy Consultant by Wheatley Group and will collaborate with the wider project team to develop a supporting energy strategy for this major housing development.
Our responsibilities include delivery of various workshops, Energy Strategy Analysis and Statement on Energy during RIBA Work Stage 2-3, and production of Energy Compliance Reports, SAP Calculations, U-value Calculations, Thermal Bridge Calculations and Approved Certifier of Design (Energy) at RIBA Work Stage 4.
Our role concludes at completion with the provision of Energy Performance Certificates and Sustainability Labels.
The key targets for the development are to achieve compliance with Glasgow City Council’s Gold Hybrid criteria under SG5 Resource Management planning policy whilst also achieving an Energy Performance Certificate rating of B as a minimum.
Key elements of the current energy strategy include and enhanced fabric performance, mechanical extract ventilation, connection to the existing Wyndford District Heating Network, wastewater heat recovery, and solar PV.
By default of being connected to the existing Wyndford Heat Network, which is a zero direct emissions heating system, the proposed development will achieve Aspect Platinum Level 1 as defined within Section 7 (Sustainability) of the Scottish Domestic Technical Handbooks. It will also achieve Silver Active Level by complying with Aspect Silver Levels 2 to 8 as a minimum.
